Treasure Valley racing fans are in luck

If you are looking for some fast racing action, the area has several interesting options.

  • Firebird Raceway — Emmett. Firebird is a National Hot Rod Association Championship Drag Racing track located five miles north of Highway 44 on Highway 16. It features several racing categories, pit access and exhibitions on weekends during the summer. Adult admission is $9 for most events, children 6-12, $2. Toddlers are free.   • Les Bois — Boise. Live horse racing every Wednesday and Saturday starting at 5:45 p.m., 2 p.m. on Sunday all summer at Les Bois Park. Admission is $2, except for Wednesdays, which are free for everyone. Children under 12 get in free on weekends. Those placing bets must be 18 years old, but there is no age limit on viewing races.   • Meridian Motor Speedway — Meridian. Meridian Speedway features several kinds of auto racing and special events every Saturday evening during the summer. General admission for adults is $10 and $5 for seniors 62 and over. Kids six to 12 are $4. Gates open for Saturday races at 4 p.m. with time trials beginning at 5. The racing gets under way at 6 p.m. Mondays, gates open at 3 p.m. with time trials beginning at 4. Racing starts at 5. The Fourth of July is the biggest racing day of the summer. The times for the Fourth are the same as regular Saturday races, but include fireworks after the racing. Thursdays are practice days with a $2 admission to most of the speedway, starting at 5 p.m. It is located five minutes from Interstate 84 near the yellow water tower.   • Marsing JetSprint Park — Marsing. The JetSprint Park brings in world champion sprint boat racing the first Saturday of the month from June to October. Located at the Snake River Bridge and Highway 55 in Marsing, it covers 40 acres and is made of a series of channels two feet deep. Qualifying races start at 10 a.m. with elimination rounds after lunch at around 1 p.m. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the races from the grass.
