| Boise Airport gets remake | ||||
|
BOISE Travelers flying in and out of the Boise Airport will find many changes in the upcoming months. Traffic has been detoured through the terminal area, parking lots have been rearranged, and parts of the terminal building will be closed during a major reconstruction project. Construction of a new 361,000-square-foot terminal began in August 2001.
Electrical and mechanical work is proceeding in the basement and first floor of the building during upcoming months. This summer, visitors to the airport will see a flurry of construction activity. Crews will be completing the steel framing and work will proceed on the exterior walls, which will be a combination of glass, sandstone and cultured stone veneer and masonry block. Inside the structure, mechanical and plumbing work will be completed, and interior walls will take shape. Before fall arrives, many of the interior finishes such as lighting, flooring, millwork and painting will be nearing completion. Work will continue on the ticket lobby, baggage claim areas, rental car facilities and food concession areas through the end of the year. The first phase of the new, expanded airport terminal is scheduled for completion in early 2003. Temporary walkways will be built to move passengers from the concourse areas to the new terminal, while the existing terminal building is demolished and the new concourses are constructed. The airport terminal construction is expected to be completed in 2004. |
