Sure, readers send letters to the editor and are great about birth and wedding announcements. But what if papers could tap into the great wealth of insight, knowledge, opinion and perspective of their readers on regular news sections like local sports, travel, lifestyles, and more?
This month's In The Spotlight is a perfect example of reader interaction and its perfect fit for an online publication. The Multnomah Village Post Online (www.multnomahpost.com) has a wonderful travel feature entitled "Postcards from the Post". They’ve asked readers to submit a wonderful travel photo as well as to weigh in on favorite destinations, travel hints, recent trips, and recommended locales.
Their current survey: “Tell us about your favorite small town (besides Multnomah Village, of course) in 50 words or less.” What a great way to inspir e reader loyalty, promote cross-traffic for both your print and online versions, and to offer a bit of travel brillance provided free of charge...by your readers!
For another little kick, what about getting a local travel agent to sponsor the page and include their banner ad at the top and a link to the agent’s site or your directory listing. Great job Multnomah Village Post! | |
