The Haddonfield school district was advised on Wednesday that it will not receive any state aid for the 2010-11 school year. That's a cut of more than $1.5 million.
The district had budgeted to receive about $1.3 million, 15% less than in the current year.
The immediate challenge for the Board of Education is to adjust its tentative budget to accommodate a significant loss of funds. By law, the district must produce a tentative budget by next Monday (March 22) and a final budget by March 26.
"Many decisions will need to be made over the next few days," said superintendent of schools Alan Fegley. "None of them will be pleasant."
In Camden County, Haddon Heights receives the next greatest cut 55.7% (equal to $995,605) followed by Cherry Hill 51.9% (equal to $8,579,467).
