In response to the earthquake that has devastated Haiti, the Borough of Haddonfield is planning to sponsor a benefit concert at the Haddonfield Memorial High School on Sunday, January 31.
The Help for Haiti concert, which will begin at 3pm, will feature some of the most popular performers from First Night Haddonfield, the alcohol-free, family-oriented celebration of the arts held at various downtown venues in Haddonfield each New Years Eve.
The concert program is being coordinated by Jane Mathers, the entertainment director for First Night. A list of performers is not yet available, but Mathers promises that the talent will be top notch.
Haddonfield Mayor Tish Colombi said she has had calls from numerous residents, asking whether the Borough would be doing something to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
In the wake of the hurricanes that hit New Orleans, we sponsored a very successful Concert for Katrina at the High School, Colombi said. Were sure that residents of Haddonfield and the region will support this fundraiser as well. I have no doubt it will be a super show.
Colombi said the Borough chose Sunday, January 31 for the concert because it will be football-free. Its one week after the last of the playoff games and one week before the Super Bowl, she said, so the timing is perfect.
Tickets for the event, which cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door, are available at the Information Center in Kings Court, in downtown Haddonfield. The center is open daily from 12n until 4pm. Details of the program will be posted on HaddonfieldOnline.com as they become available.
The proceeds from the event will be donated to the Camden County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
UPDATE (in response to a reader's comment): Area residents who wish to send donations in support of the concert should mail their checks (payable to "American Red Cross") to Borough of Haddonfield, PO Box 3005, Haddonfield NJ 08033.
