Mothers Day is Sunday, May 11 and Euharlee Pre-K students invited their dads and others to make a surprise gift for Mom. The children wanted to show the special person in their life how much they are loved and appreciated. Emma Hanson assists her father, Mitch Hanson, in making a special card for her mother. In the United States, Julia Ward Howe, who wrote the Battle hymn of the Republic, first suggested Mothers Day in 1872. However, it wasnt until 1907 when Anna Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began to establish a national observance. It was made official when President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, proclaimed Mothers Day as a holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.
