WASHINGTON U.S. Congressman Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, has been honored by the American Conservative Union one of the nation's oldest and largest grassroots conservative organizations for his conservative voting record during the past year. ACU's purpose is to communicate and advance the goals and principles of conservatism through one multi-issue, umbrella organization.
"The American Conservative Union has given its 2008 Ratings of Congress Award to Congressman Phil Gingrey for his record of support for conservative principles over a wide range of issues," said ACU Chairman David A. Keene. "Congressman Gingrey's lifetime rating of "95" over six years of service reflects someone who grassroots conservatives in Georgia and elsewhere can look to for leadership."
Gingrey represents Georgia's 11th Congressional District, which includes the eastern half of Gordon County.
Since 1971, the American Conservative Union has published an annual "Rating of Congress." ACU rates each member of the House and Senate on a scale of 0 to 100, based on votes cast on a wide range of issues. The ratings are designed to show how members voted on all major issues in order to gauge their adherence to conservative principles. ACUs ratings have become an unparalleled resource for activists and journalists from across the political spectrum and are listed in all major political almanacs and reference guides.
Being honored by a grassroots organization like the American Conservative Union, which has such a strong history of standing up for the conservative values and principles that I strive to uphold, is truly an honor, said Congressman Gingrey. The ACU has always been very active in the State of Georgia, and I look forward to continuing to work with this group and other like-minded conservatives to ensure that our Georgia values continue to have a strong voice in Washington.
