Alachua to name commission chambers after James Lewis

ALACHUA Alachuas Interim City Manager Traci Cain announced Tuesday that the Citys commission chambers will be named in honor of former longtime City Commissioner James Lewis. Lewis served the City for 42 years as a commissioner, completing his final term in April 2009. Prior to his departure from the City Commission, Lewis was one of the longest-standing elected officials in the country. Lewis was first elected into office in 1967.

HIGH SPRINGS Just in time for the holiday mood that creeps up the week before Thanksgiving, the High Springs Garden Club has prepared with decorations.
The club had Linda Hatfield, owner of The Flower Exchange in High Springs, lead a workshop Tuesday in wreath making and centerpiece design for the holidays.
With 29 members, the group has actively educated residents in knowledge of flowers and gardening since its founding in 1950.
But one member says even now, the group is seen with a slight misconception.
