Members of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus community, as well as the general public, are welcome to visit the Fifth Annual Northwestern Art Society (NAS) Art Show today through April 26 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus.
University students and employees have a number of items now on display, including oil and water color paintings, pencil drawings and photographs, which seems to be the favorite entry category.
We have photos entered in every category we offered, so I hope people will come to the library to view the work of the talented people we have at Northwestern, said Angelia Case, NAS sponsor.
The show is free and open to the public during the librarys regular hours.
Case reminded those who plan to attend the show that they have an opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork. Whatever piece receives the most votes, whether it is student or employee work, will win the Peoples Choice ribbon and $50.
NAS also has judges coming in to determine first through third place honors for students and employees in all categories, divisions and the Best of Show.
This years special category is titled Celebrate Northwestern. These entries all relate to the university in some manner. Students and employees will go head-to-head for the top prize and ribbon in this category.
All winning entries will then be taken to the Runnymede Hotel in downtown Alva for a free Winners Only art show April 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a reception for artists and the public from 7 to 9 p.m., and on April 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A Peoples Choice award also is up for grabs for those showing artwork at the Runnymede. Monies raised by club members this year go toward the nearly $700 available to be given away as cash prizes, mostly to student-winners, and to purchase approximately $200 worth of ribbons that will be awarded. The shows co-sponsor, the Student Government Association, also contributed $250 to be used for the show.
