Honey Wheat Bed and Breakfast, opened by John and Grace Mathes in August of 2004, quickly became a favorite meeting place for clubs, parties and other special events.
This year, those who haven't had the privilege of touring Alva's most recent bed and breakfast establishment can do so by participating in the Electric Gold Christmas Tour of Homes.
To get a preview of what the warm, homey inside looks like, drive by the big white house at 304 Third Street at night and see the warm glow of the icicle lights hanging from the eaves and the candles glowing in the windows.
Inside Grace's decorations reflect her own warm personable style as a hostess. The bedrooms of the two-story house are decorated around various themes: The Sunshine Room, The Angel Room, and the large bedroom with Santas and Nativity scenes.
Tickets for the annual Tour of Homes can be purchased at the Alva High School Auditorium preceding and after the combined vocal and band concert Sunday which begins at 2 p.m.
