McKenzie purchasing Steward County’s fire truck

PRESENTATION – McKenzie Mayor Walter Winchester accepts a $4,500 check from the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for the purchase of a third tornado siren. McKenzie council members believe they’re getting a deal and a half in the fire truck they’re purchasing from Stewart County for $35,000.

Although the purchase was not an agenda item, Mayor Walter Winchester ask council members to approve it being added to Thursday night’s business.

Huntingdon awarded $500,000 grants for sewer rehab

The Town of Huntingdon will be receiving a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant for sewer improvements, Mayor Dale Kelley told council members in the Nov. 10 meeting. This announcement was among several made by the mayor during the meeting.

Former countian’s wife charged in murder
Gary Cole

The wife of a former Hollow Rock resident, Gary Cole, of Enville, has been charged with first degree murder, aggravated arson and tampering with evidence in his death. Melissa R. Cole, 41, is being held in McNairy County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

She is accused of shooting her husband in the head while he was asleep on a loveseat and setting their home on fire to cover up the crime. She is to appear in McNairy County General Sessions Court on Jan 7. Cole’s body was discovered during the early hours of Nov. 3 when firemen ...
