Toe-biters teach students about the ecosystem of the San Pedro River

  Have you ever leached copper with vinegar and then plated it using a nine-volt battery? Although this experiment was originally designed for a college prep or AP class, it was but one of many experiments third through seventh graders participated in while attending College for Kids at Central Arizona College, Aravaipa Campus. While this process does not produce commercial quality plating, it does give students the opportunity to study the chemistry of purifying copper, in an area where copper mining is one of the main industries.
