The alert is being issued to give all drivers advance notice that predicted weather conditions could necessitate the declaration of a winter no-parking condition in the near future. Miss Svendsen passed away last week at the age of 85. She was my math teacher and one of the home room teachers at Roosevelt Junior High School back in the mid-1950s. I’m not sure that I ever used her full name. She was always Miss Svendsen. That was back in the day when students referred to all of their teachers as Miss, Mrs., Mr. or coach. Every year, for the past several years, the future of the Decatur Celebration stirs about as much speculation and controversy in our city as pro quarterback Brett Farve’s “retirement” talk.
