CODE #1 WINTER NO-PARKING CONDITION ALERT ISSUED BY THE CITY
A CODE #1 winter no-parking condition alert has been issued by the City of
Decatur.
The alert is being issued to give all drivers advance notice that predicted weather
conditions could necessitate the declaration of a winter no-parking condition in
the near future.
At the present time, however all normal traffic and parking regulations remain in
effect.
If a winter no-parking condition is declared, the following restrictions would go
into effect on streets posted with Winter No-parking signs:
1. The parking, leaving or standing of any vehicle would be banned on

Miss Svendsen passed away last week at the age of 85.
She was my math teacher and one of the home room teachers at
Roosevelt Junior High School back in the mid-1950s.
Im not sure that I ever used her full name. She was always Miss
Svendsen.
That was back in the day when students referred to all of their teachers
as Miss, Mrs., Mr. or coach.
I had some good teachers back then, but Miss Svendsen was always my
favorite at Roosevelt. I always enjoyed being in her class although math
wasnt one of my favorite subjects.

DECATUR CELEBRATION CONTINUES FIGHT TO SURVIVE

Every year, for the past several years, the future of the Decatur Celebration
stirs about as much speculation and controversy in our city as pro
quarterback Brett Farves retirement talk.
Farve came back this past season and had one of the best years hes ever
had.
Farve is 40 years old and his body took a real beating in the NFC
championship game recently.
The Decatur Celebration is 25 years old and it also has been taking a real
beating the past several years.

CITY COUNCIL MOVES TOWARDS GIVING DELINQUENT PARKERS 'THE BOOT'
The general consensus of all six members of the Decatur City Council who
were on hand for Mondays council meeting was that the infamous Denver
Parking Boot will soon make its appearance on the streets of the downtown
business district to encourage outstanding parking ticket offenders to pay up
or get booted.
Council members gave their views to City Manager Ryan McCrady and his
staff on which direction to proceed on making modifications to the existing
downtown parking system to bring about improvements to generate

The $12 billion budget deficit hasnt stopped state officials from flying back
and forth to Chicago on the states executive aircraft at a cost of $3,000 per
hour.
State Representative Bill Mitchell (R-Forsyth) believes the State should sell its
fleet of executive aircraft. Mitchell spoke at the Springfield Amtrak station,
where he suggested the Governor and state employees use the Amtrak
