Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s campuses in Alva, Enid and Woodward will close for Thanksgiving break Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 25-27. No classes will be held during this time, and campus offices will be closed.

Looking somewhat like a scene from the Old West, teepees and tents filled the Avard Camp Grounds. People in buckskin clothing cooked over a campfire.
A group of Oklahoma’s Mountain Men held their first Avard Rendezvous at the area, according to information supplied by Debbie Cunningham who helped arrange the meet.
In addition to camping, the group held a black powder shoot, hatchet and knife throwing contests.

All schools deal with the issue of bullying. Alva Middle School is taking proactive steps to stop and prevent bullying by adopting the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. This research-based schoolwide “systems-change” program has been used successfully in schools all over the country and around the world with positive results.

After several years of inaction, the ownership of BIGMan, LLC and the Woods County Industrial Authority reached an agreement on repayment of a $100,000 loan.
During the past month, a meeting between the major stockholders of BIGMan and representatives of the WCIDA met to discuss a proposal by the electric car company. The two entities agreed that the car company would continue to pay their rent at the rate of $500 per month, a principal payment of $1,000 month beginning Jan. 5, 2010. The entire balance will be due Dec. 12, 2010.

Students from Alva Middle School and Alva High School will travel to Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford Tuesday for the annual Western Honor Choir. The students were selected from several hundred applicants following auditions on October 10.
The students will participate in group clinics throughout the day for the concert to be held at the SWOSU Fine Arts Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
