Ken, Savanah, and Nicole Beal had fun playing in the snow on Sunday. They built this snowman in their yard at 2920 Highway 69 South.
On Friday, a winter storm moved into Benton County, dropping the most snow the county has seen in several years. When all was said and done, Benton County had approximately 8 inches of snow and ice by the time the storm moved out of the area on Saturday. In many ways the county was fortunate because the snow arrived first instead of the sleet and freezing rain that was predicted.

When news of the tragic earthquake in Haiti reached the United States, Kim Plunk of Camden, knew there was a strong possibility she would have to go. Plunk is a member of the Disaster Mortuary Organization Response Teams (DMORT) that is responsible for identifying bodies after a disaster such as the one in Haiti. As a dental hygienist, Plunk is trained to use dental records for positive identity. Her mission on this trip will be to identify Americans who were killed in Haiti when the earthquake struck.
SUCCESSFUL BENEFIT - Marty Hollowell volunteered his time as auctioneer on Saturday night. The benefit was held to help pay the expenses incurred by the death of Jeremy Pinkley. Guests were treated to vegetable soup or chili, drinks, and homemade desserts. A silent and live auction was held. In spite of the snowy weather and slick roads, volunteers who worked the event were very pleased with the successful outcome.
The Benton County Board of Education met on Monday night at the Benton County Career and Technical Center. After approval of the minutes from December the board voted to approve Lucille Calkins, David T. Davis, Elizabeth Dyer, Candice Inman Fields, Megan Fuqua, Casey Miller, and Kimberly D. Walker as substitute teachers pending background checks.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 1 in 3 men and 1 in 4 women die from heart disease every year.
